We're Going to the Zoo Zoo Zoo!

Yun Chuan

The title above was Peter, Paul & Mary's version of a 1964 Tom Paxton children's song, "Going to the Zoo." When your good friend, Adriana Greisman invites you on a photo mission to the San Diego Zoo, you accept readily! So, I did. She is a well-known professional photographer and I encourage you to peruse Adriana's work here.

We spent nearly 6 hours walking around and carrying cameras around our necks with backpacks. It was, "mission successful!"

The main attraction, if there is one, is the 2 Chinese Pandas, Yun Chuan (5 year-old male) and Xin Bao (4 year-old female). Yun Chuan translates to "big river of cloud," and Xin Bao to "new treasure of prosperity and abundance."

The zoo offers timed entries to see them, or one can just go in the standby line. We did both, as Yun Chuan was a no show for our timed entry, but standby was more successful. Xin Bao was taking her nap the entire time, but Yun Chuan kept everyone entertained with his bamboo lunch.

The problem for photographers was the dirty glass we had the shoot through, and the constant reflection and movement of the crowd. Post-processing accomplished a bit of cleanup, but the images throughout the zoo suffered similar fates.

Beautiful birds! There are two walk-through aviaries in the zoo, Scripps and Gorilla Tropics. Highly recommended for the sounds and the antics of so many birds! Here are a few from our visit.

Oh, the primates! Challenting, but so much fun recording a few of these spectacular beasts. Included are Monkeys, Capybaras, Gorillas, Guanaco, Hippo, Tapir, Tiger, and Meerkats. Followed by a couple non-biological pics.

I hope you enjoy viewing my galleries. Please let me know!

Steve
